Breaking news from Washington, D(og) C(ity)

Senators Mack T. Beans (D(og) - Texas) and Beckett Wilson-Brador (D(og) - Alabama) are seeking co-sponsors for Senate Bill K9: Equal Rights Amendment for Dogs.

"Today, we are pleased to introduce the Equal Rights Amendment for Dogs, or the 'Stella Act'" said Senator Beans, speaking from the steps of the Capawtol. "Too long have we dogs been treated as second class citizens. When one of my constituents came to me with a heartbreaking tale of being excluded from restaurants, movies, and even weddings, I knew it was time to act."

"With the Stella Act," added Senator Wilson-Brador, "we dogs will finally have equal rights, fairness, and equal opportunity! Although we are both Dogocrats, we truly believe this bill will have bipartisan appeal, and we look forward to working with our colleagues in the Repuglican party."

White House press secretary Bo Obama was unavailable for comment, but unnamed staffers indicated that both President Tadpole Pomegranate and V-P Joseph Stains had expressed their support for the bill.

Open Letter to Jacoby Ellsbury

Dear Jacoby,

The other night when you stole home plate, my mom was cheering, jumping around, and yelling HBO words. But when I steal snacks off the counter, or shoes out of the closet, she scolds me.

This is why I think we need to have a race. Once I can prove to Mom that I am as fast as you are, I'm sure she'll change her tune. Therefore, I am challenging you to a race around my back yard.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Beckett la Brador

OMDOG, best weekend!

OMDOG guys this weekend has been the BEST!

Yesterday, Mom was puttering around the house in the morning and when I saw her heading towards the box that holds all my bandannas and fun stuff I came down with a serious case of the ZOOMIES! We selected a red bandanna with blue and white bones on it, and she put a USA Gay-Straight Alliance button on it.

First we went to the Farmer's Market. Lots of people admired me and it was fun to walk around and see what was for sale at all the tents. This was the first market of the season and there wasn't yet a ton of produce, but Mom did buy me some special dog soap from Retriever Soapworks! (With a name like that, how could we resist?)

Then we walked over to Bienville Square to see some friends who were there setting up a tent for the Mobile Pride Festival. Since Mom is an adviser for South's chapter of the Gay-Straight Alliance we wanted to say hi. I got to meet a Yorkipoo named Nefler whose mom is one of my mom's students. He's even tinier than Leo, my teacup Yorkie bud!

Lots of people paid attention to me and gave me lots of pets and scritches. It was awesome! I was even pretty good about not jumping up on people, though it was sometimes hard to resist.

Here's a picture of me in the park. Sorry it's blurry, Mom didn't have her good camera with her:
This is my happy face

I met one man who spent about 15 minutes just paying attention to me. He was kind of scruffy and Mom explained to me that he doesn't have a furever home. This man was so nice and loved me so much. He told me about a dog he used to have. He kept reassuring Mom that he loves animals. Mom kept telling him that she could see he does, but maybe he's used to people avoiding him and not believing him. Mom says she probably would have avoided him if I hadn't been with her. Why are humans so confusing? Anyway, I suggested to Mom that whenever we go to the Farmer's Market we should also go over to the park where we met all my new friends and say hi to them, and she thinks that is a pretty good idea.

When we got home I was the tiredest! I took a looong nap.

Beckett is an ally

We listened to the beginning of the RED SOX game but then the power went out. Later Mom left me at home and went to see the Mobile Bay Bears (the AA team for TAN TORKELSON's Dbacks!) play. And when she got to the game she saw this:

Hounds at the Hank

It was "Hounds at the Hank" and Mom could have brought me to the game but she is a LOSER and didn't know about it. I would have had the best time and cheered on those BAY BEARS as they beat the Birmingham Barons 4-3.

Oh well, I have to admit that I was fast asleep at home on the big bed while she was out, because it was a pretty tiring FUN day even without a trip to the game.

Tonight is the last game in the weekend RED SOX v. Yankees series! GO RED SOX!

GO RED SOX!

Here's another thing I'm STOKED about - the first Red Sox v. Yankees series of the year. Mom and I will be listening to our XM radio and cheering on the best team in baseball, the BOSTON RED SOX!*

Stoked

Joey commented that I sure looked stoked about going for a walk. Well, I decided to make a list of all the things I am stoked about:

-waking Mom up to get her to feed me breakfast!
-breakfast!
-post-breakfast nap!
-playing in the back yard while Mom take her shower!
-napping while Mom is at work!
-begging while Mom eats lunch!
-going for my lunchtime walkies!
-playing with my teacup Yorkie buddy, Leo!
-resting under the ceiling fan with my belly on the cool tile floor!
-napping while Mom is at work!
-greeting Mom when she gets home from work!
-dinner!
-doing zoomies around the yard or house!
-greeting the neighbors who are sitting in their back yard with no noise to distract them!
-roaching!
-taking a refreshing drink of water!
-rolling all over the couch to make sure it gets lots of fur on it!
-taking up as much of the big bed as possible!
-blogging!
-Tweeting!
-giving Mom hugs & kisses!
-cheering for the Red Sox!
-getting belly rubs
-playing with my Everlasting Fun Ball!

Hmm. That's just a start. Maybe it would have made more sense to make a list of things I'm NOT stoked about! LOL!

Confusion

I went to Puppy Camp for a few days this week because my mom went to a conference. I like Puppy Camp because I get to flirt with all the pretty girls who work there, and do zoomies around the yard with other pups.

Anyway, Mom went to a conference at this place, Auburn University:

She is not from Alabama but she understands that one of the most important rivalries in the state is the one between the University of Alabama and Auburn University. Auburn's mascot is the tiger:

But it is also the War Eagle:

This two mascot thing is a bit confusing, don't you think? (The University of Alabama's mascot is Big Al the elephant, but they are also called the Crimson Tide. For a long time Mom thought that this might be a reference to red tide but was confused why that would be associated with a school that's not on the coast... Someone straightened her out on where the name came from, though.)

Anyway, this guy, Mark Bellhorn, who played for the 2004 World Champion Boston Red Sox, went to Auburn, so Mom figured that there would be a statue of him somewhere on the campus. Alas, there was not.

Can you believe that?

Rain, rain, go away

Last week it rained all week. It got nice for a few days, but then it started raining again. Today we had tornado warnings for most of the day, so Mom was all freaked out. She's been scared of tornadoes ever since she saw that movie with that girl Dorothy and her dog Toto.

Fun fact that you may not have been aware of: that movie also stars Joe Stains and Tan Torkelson. Click that link and you'll see what I mean.

When I want to go outside, I stand by the back door and wait for Mom to open it. When it's raining, I don't like to go out, so I back away and Mom closes the door again. Then I go sit by the front door, which makes my Mom laugh. She has this RIDICULOUS notion that if it's raining outside the back door, it must also be raining outside the front door. Have you ever heard anything so silly?

Another Beckett

Hi guys, it's me, Beckett!
Beckett's favorite ball
I am a unique fellow, but as you may know, I occasionally share my name - even with humans.

I was aware of St. Thomas Becket,

Samuel Beckett,

and, of course, Josh Beckett.

But recently I have discovered another great Beckett:

Kate Beckett, who is sassy like me, and a very pretty girl.
I like pretty girls.

But Mom, for some reason, doesn't pay much attention to Kate Beckett because she is too busy looking at this guy:

There's just no accounting for taste.
