What the Feline?!?!

The strangest thing happened yesterday. Mom went to church and came home with a C-A-T and a crying woman. WTF?!? (That stands for What the Feline.)

It turns out that the woman was going through a rough spell in her life and had to move out of state suddenly. She wasn't able to take her cat with her, she hadn't been able to find a new home for her, and she couldn't face taking her to the pound. All the no-kill shelters around here are already overflowing with animals.

The woman was in so much pain that Mom had to help her out. So she told the woman that she would take the cat and see how she and I got along. If we get along, Missy will join our family. If we don't, she'll stay in our guest room until Mom can find a good home for her.

I would really like to play with her, but Mom says I need to give her some time to adjust to her new surroundings. Right now she is making herself at home in the guest room.

Uh oh...

iBone

Mom got some dumb new phone called the iBone or something like that.

Naturally, one of the first pictures she took with it was of ME:
Beckett from my new iPhone

I was looking through the pictures on Mom's iBone last night and found this:
Jakob the love bug

OMDOG is Mom cheating on me?!?

It turns out this is Jakob, who Mom met while she was helping the Animal Rescue Foundation set up for a yard sale at her church. He'd been chained up and when he was rescued he had chain embedded in his neck and he was so emaciated they didn't think he'd survive. His foster mom realized she couldn't part with him, so now he has a furever home with another pit boo, Izzy, and a 17-year old Rottie/Doberman mix! Despite his background, Jakob is totally friendly and smiley and loves to be petted.

I would like to mail a big box of poo to the "people" who treated him so badly!

Keeping myself busy

Last night, while Mom was saying lots of HBO words while she mopped standing water out of the broken dishwasher, I was busy.

You're disturbing my snack.

And you have a problem with this?

I'm not sorry.

Notice something new?

My companion

New collar

I know some of you (like Joey and Lorenza) won't appreciate my new collar, but I am very pleased with it. Mom was ordering a book on Amazon recently and SOMEHOW this collar ended up in her shopping cart. Very MYSTERIOUS, isn't it?

Dinner at MY house!

Last night Uncle Andrew and Uncle Patrick came over for dinner. I love to have visitors!

Since it's just Mom and me I really like to get my "guy time" in when I can. You know, drinking beer, talking about sports... hrm. That's really not too different from my mom, now that I think about it.

The most exciting thing about dinner was that they used the magic cooking box in the back yard, and this time real MEAT came out. Even though Mom is a boring vegetarian, she got hamburgers for the guys. Omdog that magic cooking box smelled SO GOOD!

The burgers were kind of crumbly and two little pieces came off them and Uncle Andrew cooked them and gave them to ME!

I was a very good boy while my guests were over. See?

Caught!

Oops, those weren't the pictures I was looking for...

Two sides to every story

Mom's side:

A few nights ago, I was sound asleep until 3:46AM, when I was prodded awake by the repeated head-butting of a certain Labrador Retriever. Worried that he might be unwell, I sat up and attempted to ascertain the cause of his actions. He continued with the head-butting. I calmly and quietly requested that he cease head-butting me. Since I was up, I decided to use the bathroom. Upon my return, I found that MY spot on the bed had been stolen by Beckett, who had fallen back asleep with his head on my pillow.

Beckett's side:

A few nights ago, I was roused from my sound sleep by the knowledge that my mom was having terrible nightmares. I did what any heroic dog would do - I gently nudged her a few times to wake her up. Clearly still under the influence of these nightmares, she rather testily screeched at me, but I kept at my course of action until I was sure she was no longer suffering from nightmares. When she got up to go to the bathroom, I temporarily moved into her spot on the bed in order to keep it warm for her, but, alas, I was so worn out by my acts of nighttime heroism that I accidentally fell asleep there.

Readers, who do YOU believe?

Busy weekends

A few weekends ago, I advised Mom on her craft room. She really needed to get some new shelving for the room too, so I offered to create a design sketch. A friend helped her build and stain the shelves.

I am pleased with the physical manifestation of my design:
New shelves
I have a serious expression because I am a Serious Designer.

We have had a lot of busy weekends lately. It used to be that Mom and I had a lot of lazy weekends. She used to always take long naps - now she has to try really hard to nap. (It must be hard not to be a dog!) It turns out that she was so tired all the time because of some medication she was taking.

Her old doctor stopped her on that medicine in December and put her on a new medicine that made her way too jittery and she kept throwing up. Remember when I had to go stay with Willie Wonka and Buster because my mom was in the hospital? Well, when she got out of the hospital she got a new, better doctor who figured out all the problems with the medication and now she feels much better. She has also lost a lot of weight that one of her old medicines had made her gain.

Mom went to buy me more of my food a few days ago, and the humans at the register couldn't believe she was lugging around a 30lb bag of deliciousness so easily. What they didn't know was that until recently she weighed almost two of those bags of kibble more.

That is why she is sewing so much lately - because her old clothes don't fit! If humans just had fur they wouldn't have these problems. BOL! Thanks to ME she has a nice place to do her sewing, and I always keep her company and offer my advice.

I am a Good Boy

Lately, a few new families have moved onto our street. They have human pups. I love human pups!

Last night, while Mom and I were doing Walkies, the human pups wanted to pet me. Usually I get SO EXCITED about this that I start to pull and jump up and Mom makes me go home, but last night, when I saw the human pups, I sat down like a Good Boy immediately and wagged my tail. They came over and petted me, scritched me, and talked to me. It was AWESOME.

There's something to be said for being a Good Boy. But I still think I'll get up to a little mischief...
