Happy New Year!

Hi pups and peeps!

The end of the year, from Thanksgiving on, ended up being a little nutso for my mom, so I didn't have a chance to post. I was very busy providing a lot of TLC (Tender Labrador Care).

I just got back from a pawesome Christmas vacation at Puppy Camp, where I got to play play play and flirt flirt flirt with all the pretty vet techs. OMDOG it was so much fun.

Happy New Year from me, Beckett:

My adopterashun

There is a big story behind yesterday's picture but I'll save that for another day. Lots of pups are telling their adopterashun stories today and I want to join in.

In August of 2007 Mom moved from Massachewsetts to Babablama to take a job. She didn't know anyone here and she was starting a new career, so she was nervous and thought she might be making a big mistake. But she was also excited and hoping for the best.

When she was looking for places to live she didn't have money to travel down to Mobile to look at apartments, so she looked at lots of places online and made lots of phone calls. One thing she knew she wanted was a place that would let her have pets, because she wanted to adopterate a dog when she got settled. She was lucky and found a good place.

After she had been here for a few months she started to settle in and began looking on Petfinder. She knew she wanted a black Lab or Lab mix. There was one pup she saw on Petfinder that was on there in late October and into November and even early December. She told herself that if he was still there after she came back from Christmas she would adopterate him. But just before Christmas he got adopterated. Mom was happy that he got a furever home but also a little sad and wondered if she would ever find her dog.

When she got back in January she started looking on Petfinder again and one day she saw these pictures:
I'm having a baby!I'm having a baby!

Naturally, she was totally smitten with me. My description said that I was a very friendly, active boy, but that I laid quietly in my kennel. Mom took the first chance she got to drive over to the shelter to see me. My kennel was the last one on the row and when she walked in all the dogs went nuts, except me. I was just lying there quietly - until she stopped in front of my kennel. Then I went bounding over to her. I took her for a walk and she knew I was her dog.

She couldn't take me home that day because all the paperwork wasn't done, but the next Saturday she came and got me. I was so exciterated that I didn't take ANY naps during the whole 3-day weekend she had with me.

At first she chalked my runny poops up to excitement, but after a few weeks she got worried. I also kept getting redder and redder and patches of furs were falling out and I had hot spots. She freaked out. She took me to the vet and I got medicine which helped with the spots and redness, but I was still itchy. She started reading about allergies and tried me on lots of different foods until she got it right.

We are a team and I help her out with LOTS of stuff and have no idea how she ever managed without ME.

Q & A and my new friend!

I had a lot of questions about my Wordless Wednesday pictures.

Q. Khyra asked if I was waiting fur my date.
A. No, I was waiting for my mom. A pup as handsome as me could, of course, go on many dates, but right now I'm concentrating on my interior design studies.

Q. The OP Pack asked if I was waiting to go for a walk.
A. Yes. I know I said I was waiting for my mom a second ago, but I was also waiting for a walk. I'm always waiting for a walk!

Q. Lorenza asked if I took my mom for a ride.
A. That was the idea, but that killjoy mom would not let me drive. She wouldn't even let me ride shotgun!

Q. The Thundering Herd asked if I have a driver's license.
A. I just got my new dog license. I think that means I can drive. What else would I need a license for?

Today, on my lunchtime walk, I made a new friend!

Beckett makes a friend

We became such good friends that she followed me home and I invited her inside to play. Mom said that we could not keep her and then she put my leash on her collar and left with her and not me. WFT?!?!?!

I don't know my new friend's name because although she had a pretty pink collar she didn't have a tag on it. Mom wasn't even sure which house she came from but fortunately when we got back to that street the pup trotted right back to one house in particular.

Have a sunshiny yellow day!

The last few days here have been beautiful, with yellow sunshine during the day and golden yellow horizons before sunsets turning pink and purple. There was even a big yellow moon.

We have been noticing all the yellow in our lives a lot recently because of our friend Krisanna.

So, in the spirit of Krisanna, we want to wish you all a sunshiny yellow day. (Or, a sunshiny yellow Lab day, if you're really lucky!)

Why is it that Mom doesn't mind when I chase cats out of the back yard but does mind when I try to chase Miss Mehitabel?!?

She needs a class for this?!?

The last few Monday nights, Mom has been coming home from Work (whatever that is), having dinner, and then going out to a class without me. The nerve!

As you can see, the class she is taking is about discovering dog's vision for her life:

Well, FINALLY! But why does she need to take a class about this, and why does she leave me at HOME? I've been making my vision for her life perfectly clear - no more of this Work stuff. More stuffies and toys! More walkies! More trips to the beach!

And what are these gifts she's been hiding from me? She'd better not be hiding BULLY STICKS from me.

Clearly, humans are just not that smart.

Can you see my halo now?

OMDOG HI guys!

That lovely STELLA said some furry nice things about me on her blog yesterday and sent a bunch of new pups over here to say HI to me. Thanks so much, Stella!

I have always been a good boy, but maybe, just possibly, perhaps sometimes my Good Boy Behavior can be a little lacking. But I have been working hard at curbing some of my tendencies. For example, I have trained Mom to put those giant stuffies pillows in the closet when she's not using them. Voila! "Problem" solved.

Making stuffies 'splode - this is where Stella and I just have to agree to disagree. Really, 'sploding stuffies are one of the great JOYS in my life, and I am always full of JOY!

But now, let's talk about something really important - BASEBALL!

As you know, my mom and I are die-hard RED SOX fans! Mom's second favorite teams are the St. Louis Cardinals (she went to college, whatever that is, in St. Louis) and whoever is playing those Yankees!

We know there are lots of DWBs who are baseball fans, and not all of them share my loyalties. The lovely Lorenza wrote yesterday:
Hi, Beckett!
Hmmmm.... eeerrr.... ahem.... ahem...
We will be friends forever no matter what happens, right??
Kisses and hugs
Lorenza

Well, OF COURSE, Lorenza. You (and Joey) are still my forever friend even if we are polar opposites with our baseball team loyalties. We are both still DOGS! (But I am still going to cheer for whoever is playing those YANKEES!)

How about you pups? Do you have a favorite baseball team?

Confusion!

That last post should have been titled Wordless Wednesday: Walkies! We meant that it was a wordless Wednesday because the post didn't have words, not that we took a wordless walk. LOL.

Actually, I rarely bark on my walks. Mom pretty much talks my ears off the whole time we're out there, though.

That thing around my snooter is a Gentle Leader, not a muzzle. I can move my mouth just fine, don't worry. I actually like my Gentle Leader quite a bit for walkies. Mom tried switching me over to the Easy Walk Harness but I didn't like it at all.

I'm a really good walker - I stick right beside my Mom with a loose leash about 90% of the time. But sometimes there's a Tree Lobster out there that just needs a chase!

Still bein' good

Hi gang,

Not much is going on here. But I did want to let you know that I am still being a Good Boy.

For example, here is my Good Boy Sit:
photo
As you can clearly see, this is a 100% pure Good Boy Sit with absolutely NO mischief afoot.

And here is my Good Boy Down:
photo
I bet all of you are feeling angelic just looking at this.

And here is me doing a Good Boy Sit after helping Mom clean up after using the Loud Sucking Machine:
photo
Actually here I was just beginning my hard work redistributing all those TOYS that for some reason have to go in that basket before that Loud Sucking Machine comes out. What does that contraption DO, anyway?

So there you have it. I have been bein' GOOD.

Pee-S: those USA JAGUARS won that FOOTBALL game. Woooohooo!

Pee-Pee-S for Khyra, who said the Jaguar was a good mascot but not as good as a SIBE would have been: My Uncle Alex went to Northeastern and their mascot is a HUSKY and they have a statue that has a very shiny NOSE because all those students rub it for good luck before exams, whatever those are.

GO JAGS!

Today, my friends, is a momentous day. My University of South Alabama Jaguars will play their first ever football game. While Mom sometimes grouses about athletics funding and the purpose of college being education and stuff like that, I prefer just to enjoy the excitement in the air.

Because we have a new football team (and marching band), we had to get a new logo.

For some reason Mom refers to the new logo as the Thunderjag. Weird, right? But she's not alone in it - there's even a fan site called Thunderjags!

Anyway, at USA, we bleed it red for our Jaguars! So I'm rocking the red bandanna:
I'm a handsome devil!

And Mom is at work in the library (which she predicts will be VERY quiet today) but even she is wearing her red Thunderjags shirt to cheer on our team as they play Hargrave Military Academy's post-graduate team.

GO JAGS!

Mom's busy, I'm not

Hi, pups!

Mom says she has been really busy lately at that thing called Work because it is the start of the Fall Semester. Whatever.

I haven't been up to much mischief lately, so I don't have any exciting escapades to fill you in on. I'm sorry to let you down, but I'm really a pretty good boy most of the time.

See? Here's a picture of me resting nicely. No destruction in sight!
Resting

Kinda boring, isn't it?

an AWARD for STEALING

OMDOG, I am so excited. That cutie pie, Lorenza, gave me the Oops! I Ate It AWARD!

Here are the Rules...
When accepting this award, you must blog about the food you have stolen when your humans were not watching...If you have never stolen any food, you must be a really good pup!! You can accept this yummy tray of cookies as your reward! Next add the logo of this award to your Blog (optional), then nominate at least 5 other furry blogs and let them know by leaving a message on their Blogs...

Well, I know this will be SHOCKING to some of you, but... I love to steal food when my mom's not looking. And you know what? I'm NOT sorry.

Here are some highlights of my food-stealing career:

SUSHI

One day Mom got a big craving for some avocado rolls, but there weren't any at the grocery store and she didn't feel like going out to eat, so she decided to make her own. So first she had to go buy all the stuff she needed - nori, wasabi, rice wine vinegar, avocados, etc. Just as she was leaving the store, the skies opened and she was soaked on her way back to the car.

When she got home she was just about to start the rice when the power went out! When it finally came back on an hour later, she started making dinner. She was starving by this time, and everything took a lot longer than she thought it would, but finally, everything was ready, so she turned around to get a plate from the cabinet and...

I leaped up and grabbed the avocado roll in my mouth and went charging off toward the living room leaving a trail of rice in my wake. OMDOG, you should have heard all the HBO WORDS my mom was using!

She had spaghetti for dinner.

NOODLES WITH PEANUT-GINGER SAUCE

Mom was home for lunch and eating some noodles. I stood by the back door like I wanted to go outside, and when she got up and headed that way to open the door for me, I dashed back toward the table and got a big bite of noodles before she knew what hit her. OMDOG, was I smart or what?!?

THE ENTIRE JAR OF PEANUT BUTTER

This one wasn't a success sadly. One morning, Mom (who is not a morning person) was eating her Cheerios when out of the corner of her eye she spotted me trying a new technique for stealing food. I'd realized that perhaps my mad dash from the scene of the crime was tipping her off, so I decided to go for a nonchalant prance instead. If she hadn't done a double take, she never would have realized that I had an entire jar of peanut butter in my mouth, I was THAT nonchalant.

I would love to hear how you other pups go about stealing food, so consider yourself tagged!

Neverending Vaycayshun!

Hi, guys and gals! Mom's vaycayshun ended almost two weeks ago, but mine is still going on. I guess if you're lucky enough to be ME, you get a neverending vaycayshun.

One thing that is getting in the way of my FUN is the WEATHER. This is what it looks like pretty much every day:
View from library, 2nd floor north

Thankfully, Jake the Weatherdog is keeping an eye on those furricane things that make Mom so anxious.

Meanwhile, I have been keeping an eye on THIS:
Beckett watches TV

Mom says it is called a teevee, and that it's a hand-me-down from my Uncle Andrew. Mom has attached some boxes and put some ears on it and now it plays moving pictures and makes noises. WFT?!?!?!?! Do any of you have this WEIRD thing in your houses?

VAYCAYSHUN, All I Ever Wanted

Mom and I are sad about Charlie going to the Bridge. We are relatively new to DWB and don't get to participate as much as some other pups do, but we are both really grateful for all the friends we have made with DWB.

Anyway, last week Mom said we would be having a VAYCAYSHUN this week. I wasn't really sure what this was but it sounded exciting. So Monday morning I woke her up very early to remind her that it's VAYCAYSHUN! And she kept telling me to be quiet and leave her alone because it's VAYCAYSHUN? WFT?!?!

So this week on our VAYCAYSHUN we are doing lots of this:
This is what we have planned for vacation

I think it means basically Mom is going to try to be a LABRADOR for a week! LOL!

This morning we went to the V-E-T for the followup appointment from my ADVENTURE. We had to do some waiting. To keep myself amused, first I did my best FROG impression:
Frog dog

And then I channeled Khyra with some khrossed paw akhtion:
Paws crossed

Pretty good, huh?

The V-E-T redid my bloodwork and my liver numbers are MUCH better so he gave me a clean bill of health except for something about my EARS having a little bit of an infection.

Now I am tired from all that PLAYING and FLIRTING at the V-E-T so I am going to take some naps.

OMDOG an ADVENTURE!

What's up, pups?

I had an ADVENTURE. I'm not quite sure what happened but two nights ago I felt kind of funny and MOM started howling and leaking and howling some more. And Uncle Andrew and Father Ray came over to see me, and we went on a car ride to a different V-E-T. Mom was howling and leaking so much at the V-E-T I thought maybe they were going to put her up on that table instead of me.

I stayed at that V-E-T all night and by the morning I was ready to PLAY! The V-E-T was nice and called me "Goofball" which is something my mom also calls me a LOT but I don't really know why.

And then we went to my regular V-E-T and I was super happy to see them and I got to stay there all day and flirt with the pretty girls who work there. When we got home I gave Mom lots of big kisses and snuggles and then I was pretty tired so I took a nap:

Napping Pup

And every few minutes Mom would come over and make sure I was still breathing or something which was really ANNOYING since I was trying to get some ZZZs. Later I moved to the big bed:

Sleepy pup

I am feeling just FINE now. I don't think I will have this kind of ADVENTURE again, though. It makes Mom too much of a wreck.
