Beckett needs

My mom told me about a fun game where you Google "(your name) needs":

Beckett needs to deliver (I would, but my mom won't let me drive)
Beckett needs several grandchildren (Unfortunately, I've been neutered)
Beckett needs to wear nerdy glasses more often (Say what?!?)
Beckett needs to be submerged in the sump of the skimmer (No thanks!)
Beckett needs esprit de finesse and delicate sensitiveness (I've got that taken care of, no worries)
Beckett needs to beat on water receptacles (It's a fun game)
Beckett needs a bigger trophy case (I sure do!)
Beckett needs to chill (Hrm, it is about time for a nap...)

Keeping myself amused

Nothing much going on here. I still don't see why we couldn't go to the beach on Sunday. That mean lady Fay hardly even showed up.

Perturbed

I am a little perturbed. My mom came home Thursday night with this:
Meet Imogene
Yes, a new crate on wheels! This is great news, because it means she can come home at lunch and give me bellyrubs. But she hasn't taken me anywhere in the new crate on wheels yet. What's up with that?

I think the beach would be an excellent first trip:
Sniffing the water on his first trip to the beach

But Mom says we can't do that because of someone named Fay.

I'm a good-natured fellow and I love everyone, but I think this Fay person is an exception. Anyone who stands between me and a trip to the beach in the new crate on wheels is a big meanie!

What a week!

As you know, I'm a pretty good-natured fellow. My mom says I have two settings - exuberant and asleep. Well, I'm still like that but my mom has been having a week that merits this expression:
Looks like a dog bed to me!

First, there was my Uncle Alex's bike accident. That was very scary and stressful. Fortunately, he's out of the hospital and okay. (He has to get a metal plate put in his shoulder once his road rash heals some. It might be kind of neat to always have a plate with you for feasting, I think.)

Then, my mom's crate on wheels started to act funny. On Monday, she took it to the shop to have it looked at. The mechanic drove her to work in her crate, then returned to the shop. But it turns out that the car was beyond repair due to structural issues in the undercarriage.

Since my mom doesn't have a car, she doesn't get to come home at lunchtime and give me bellyrubs. This is completely unacceptable. I hope she gets new wheels soon!

Good news!

My uncle is out of the hospital! My mom says he's already talking about replacing his bike helmet.

To celebrate, I unstuffed one of my mom's bed pillows and festooned the room with its innards. My decorating genius went unappreciated.

Pawsitive thoughts needed

Note from Mom:

A little while ago we found out that my brother got into a bad bicycle accident in Maine. He has a concussion, a broken clavicle, and a broken scapula. Wikipedia says, "Because of its sturdy structure and protected location, scapular fractures are uncommon; when they do occur, they are an indication that severe chest trauma has occurred."

My brother's friends were able to get in touch with my mom (who is currently on vacation in Oregon) and she was able to reach my dad (back in NJ). Dad is on his way to Maine to be with my brother. My brother's being transferred to a hospital with a trauma center.

It's a fairly hopeless feeling to be so far away from family at a time like this. Alex should be okay, although he's going to be in a world of hurt for a while, but I know we'd really appreciate positive (or pawsitive) thoughts.

Herman needs a blog!

We don't have a TV, so we haven't been following the Olympics so much, but my mom used to swim competitively so she's been following the news about Michael Phelps. (She says she's still mourning Ian Thorpe's retirement so she doesn't miss having a TV. I think she's lying about that last part.)

Anyway, thanks to Ruby Bleu, we did find this YouTube clip about Michael Phelps and his dog, Herman:

Wouldn't it be cool if Herman had a blog?

My mom loves me

My mom loves me, this I know
for this sweater tells me so:

That's the sweater that I might sorta have chewed on. Looks unscathed, no?

Well, in the spirit of full disclosure, this portion below the red line is what my mom had to reknit because of my teeth:

Not so bad, right? Babies are small, you know. Mom likes to knit, and I so thoughtfully gave her more knitting! She should be thanking me. Anyway, Mom didn't get mad at me about my work and just reknit it.

While she was knitting, I worked on making the house more to my liking. Here is the couch:
Whose couch is it, anyway?

I also unmade the bed, then made myself comfortable:
Oh, just make yourself comfortable.

Good times, good times.

You can't be good all the time.

Lately I've been such a Good Boy that my mom has stopped gating me into places at night and when she's showering. But, um, this morning while she was in the shower I tore up a pillowcase and chewed on her knitting. I need an alibi!

This is my sofa.

A few months ago, this piece of furniture appeared in our living room. At first, my mom wouldn't let me get on it. She said it was "People Furniture" and Not For Me. Ha! That lasted about 72 hours.

Built-in chin rest

How could she possibly have denied that this was my sofa?! It's red, which is my color, and look! It even has a built-in chin rest that is perfectly proportioned for me.

It's one of my favorite places to rest, when cool tiles are not suitable. Lately we've had some rain. I like to watch through the window from the couch.

Please excuse my mom's annoying voice in that movie. Something is in the air and both of us have been hacking and raspy lately. I've had lots of bouts of reverse sneezing. Thankfully, my mom had come across that term somewhere in the dog blogosphere so she didn't rush me off to the Vet in a tizzy.

Cool tile floors

Last night on my walk I had a breakthrough. There are lots of human pups who live in our neighborhood, and I always want to say hi to them, but my mom says I can't because I jump up too much and scare them. Mom had been telling me that if I Sat Like Good Boy the human pups would pay attention to me, but I figured she was pulling my leg... but I tried it last night. And guess what? IT WORKED! I Sat Like Good Boy and four super fun human pups came over and gave me scritches and pats and told me how pretty I am. Why didn't Mom tell me about this earlier?

It's hot where we live. That's why I'm so glad our house has lots of tile floors. It's just the place to lie down for a relaxing nap after a walk. This is one of my favorite spots because the fan is right above me.
Tile floors are cool and refreshing
Sometimes I'm relaxing, minding my own business and sleeping, and my mom comes along and sticks a camera in my face.
Chilling the belly, post-walk
Is that really necessary?

Frosty Paws!

I was helping Mom with the groceries when I heard a strange sound.
Beckett helps put away the groceries
I went into the kitchen and Mom had the blender out. Could it be?
Frosty Paws!!!
Yes! FROSTY PAWS!!! Mom got the recipe from Petra.

Deep Thoughts, by Beckett

What is the difference, really, between a stuffie and a pillow?

Both are made of fabric and stuffing.

Both are fun to chew and destuff. So why does Mom insist there's a difference?

I'm back!

Hi gang, I'm back from camp. I had a super fun time but I'm glad to see my mom again. She brought me some souvenirs from Sandy Eggo. Don't I look handsome in my new baseball bandanna? Beckett's new baseball bandanna
She also brought me some tasty chewies. I know there's more than one of them but she wouldn't hand them all over. Beckett and the tasty chew
Mom says she had a good time. Here is a picture of the library at You See Sandy Eggo. It's named after Dr. Seuss. Doesn't it look Seussian? Geisel Library
She says she learned a lot. For example, did you know that octopuses like to play? Octopus enrichment
They also like to sleep. I didn't realize how much we dogs had in common with them. Sleeping octopus!!!
